As a naturopath and someone who has always been interested in good health, I thought I was eating pretty healthy. I treat my body as my temple and try to look after it. As an ND, I also know that good nutrition is the foundation of good health. There’s no way around that.
The problem is that I was still getting food cravings.
I learned at naturopathic college that an anti-inflammatory diet can be very helpful for lots of different health issues. Even though I had recommended it to many people, I had never actually tried it myself. The main reasons were the usual ones we all give for not starting something new:
- I’m too busy
- it’s too much work to get organized enough to do it
- I have other priorities right now
I had all the guidelines, but it was still hard to motivate myself to do it and to make it a priority. The diet itself isn’t that difficult if you have the guidelines. All you have to do is stop eating certain foods and replace them with others that you’re allowed to eat for a few weeks.
For me, however, it’s the meal planning and organizing that are the hardest part. Usually I plan meals in my head and then buy groceries based on these plans. But if I can’t eat certain foods, that messes everything up. What foods do I buy instead and how do I prepare meals with these ingredients, especially when I’m busy and don’t want to spend a lot of time and effort planning meals and shopping for groceries?
To get around this problem, I put together a plan that includes all meal plans, recipes, and grocery lists for an anti-inflammatory cleanse for 3 weeks that has full online access.
Now I just had to start doing it.
But doing it by myself didn’t seem like any fun and it didn’t really give me the motivation to start.
So, I decided to start a Facebook group where participants can share their experiences and motivate and support each other along the way.
I was surprised by the results. I was already a healthy person with a healthy weight, so I wasn’t expecting much. With this cleanse, I started eating even healthier because I was cutting out foods I was eating that cause inflammation and replacing them with more fruits and vegetables, especially greens. My food cravings went away. I formed new and better eating habits that I have been able to stick to. The new recipes I tried that I would never have tried before have become part of my regular meal planning. It changed the way I eat for the better.
In addition, I lost some weight because I was eating more antioxidants and foods that were more satisfying. I now have a better understanding of what a healthy diet is and how to follow it. I feel much more in control of my health and I take much better care of my body.
Even though I still eat sugar-laden foods from time to time, I do so much less often and am able to resist the temptation to eat them much more easily because I have a better understanding of how they harm my body, especially in the long term. I have a much better grip on healthy aging than I did before.
I wasn’t expecting this cleanse to be life changing but it was. I’m so glad I did it!
I hope I can convince you to join me.
