Even though psychiatric medications can be very effective at stabilizing acute conditions, they can also fall short in some areas. When used long term, their side effects, such as apathy, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, tardive dyskinesia and dystonia, and changes in weight can leave patients unable to function properly day to day.
