Detox: Yes or no?

Have you ever thought about doing a cleanse or a detox but weren’t sure of the benefits or didn’t know how? Read below to find out.

Why detox?

A detox is beneficial for general health because it gives your digestive system a break. When your body doesn’t need to work as hard to digest food, especially food that doesn’t agree with it, your digestive system is given the opportunity to heal. This allows you to absorb nutrients better, have better digestion, have more energy, lose weight, eliminate toxins, think more clearly, and possibly rebalance your hormones.

Why else?

Today, we are exposed to about 80,000 industrial chemicals. However, our bodies are just as efficient at detoxifying as they were since humans first walked on Earth, when the toxic burden was nonexistent compared to today. By giving our bodies a chance to detoxify, we are lightening the toxic load our bodies have to put up with on a daily basis, which gives them a chance to function better.

When is the best time to do a detox?

A detox can be done at any time during the year. In summer, our bodies naturally detoxify by sweating. Eating a healthier diet in summer will deepen your cleanse. During spring and fall, our bodies are in a natural state of transition, so they are also a good time to do a cleanse. In winter, we tend to eat more comfort foods to stay warm, so doing a cleanse during this time is a good reminder to eat healthy food. Whatever time of year you choose to do a cleanse, eating seasonal foods is a good idea.

How to detoxify

One effective way to detoxify is to follow an elimination or anti-inflammatory diet, which gives your digestive system a break from inflammatory and toxic foods.
