Why detox?

A detox is beneficial for general health because it gives your digestive system a break. When your body doesn’t need to work as hard to digest food, especially food that doesn’t agree with it, your digestive system is given the opportunity to heal. This allows you to absorb nutrients better, have better digestion, have more energy, lose weight, eliminate toxins, think more clearly, and possibly rebalance your hormones.

Why else?

Today, we are exposed to about 80,000 industrial chemicals. However, our bodies are just as efficient at detoxifying as they were since humans first walked on Earth, when the toxic burden was nonexistent compared to today. By giving our bodies a chance to detoxify, we are lightening the toxic load our bodies have to put up with on a daily basis, which gives them a chance to function better.

When is the best time to do a detox?

A detox can be done anytime during the spring, summer, or fall. In spring and fall, a detox is best done around the time of the equinoxes because your body is in a natural seasonal transition. During the summer, your body already naturally detoxifies by sweating. You can help this natural detoxification process even more by eating less food that is also less toxic. Winter is the only time a detox should not be done because we tend to eat more comfort foods in winter to stay warm.

How to detoxify

One effective way to detoxify is to follow an elimination diet, which gives your digestive system a break from inflammatory and toxic foods.
